Results Grand Finals - Week 19.2008
Monday, 25 August 2008

So near and yet so far !!!

Penshurst RSL's u11 Golds fell at the last hurdle when they were defeated in the u11 B Grand Final  last Saturday at HV Evatt Park, losing 6-24 to Hurstville United. Having upset the hot favourites in the Major Semi-Final the fortnight previous, our boys were unable to repeat the effort in the big game. Though beaten by the better side, our boys efforts were not reflected in the final scoreline. Penshurst RSL dominated field position, particularly in the second half, but were unable to crack their opponents line.

Congratulations to all of the u11 Golds players and to coach Paul O'Loughlin and his staff on a tremendous season. Well done to all concerned.

Results - Week 18.2008 - Finals
Monday, 18 August 2008

Despite brave and competitive efforts from our finalists, unfortunately all three Penshurst RSL teams were defeated over the weekend.  On Saturday, the u12s started very well, opening up a 10-0 lead with some enterprising play. Unfortunately, some errors creeped into our play, of which the much bigger opposition took advantage. Our u12s eventually bowing out 10-24.

On Sunday, the u14s led 6-4 early in the game before struggling to overcome a number of hurdles, incuding a string of penalties, 2 sin-binnings and a disallowed try. The boys continued to battle valiantly before eventually succumbing 12-34.

And in the Minor Semi-Final of the Cronulla competition, our u21s bowed out 4-16. Again our boys started well, opening the scoring with an impressive try. However, as the game wore on, we were unable to sustain any pressure on the opposition who controlled the ball and the play better than we were able.

And then there was one - Penshurst RSL's only team left standing is the u11 Golds who will be contesting the B garde Grand Final this Saturday, 23rd August, 11.30am at Hurstville Oval. A big crowd of Pensurst RSL supporters is expected to cheer on the boys.

Results - Week 17.2008 - Semi-Finals
Sunday, 10 August 2008

After the first weekend of the Finals Series, there are only four Penshurst RSL teams still standing...

The Mini teams finsihed off their season at the Mini Day at Riverwood Park on Saturday. No results have been received as yet.

In the Mod grades on Saturday...the u10 Greens were well beaten after scoring first - a disappointing end to a terrific season; the u10 Golds nearly pulled off a big upset - a terrific end to a tough season for a new team; the u11 Gold did pull off a major upset, defeating a more fancied opponent to be the first to qualify for the Grand Final; and the u12s recorded a strong victory to advance to next week's Final.

On Sunday in the International grades...the u13s ended their season with a positive effort by nearly pulling off a major upset against a much bigger and more fancied opponent; after leading at half-time, the u14s weren't able force their way into the Grand Final, they get a second chance in next week's Final; after being in the contest at 4-all at half-time, the u15s couldn't go on with it in the second half, failing to keep their season alive; and the u19s were eliminated in extra time after leading by 4 points with a minute to go.

Meanwwile, our u21s, playing in the Cronulla comp, confirmed their place in the finals with a strong win over their 3rd placed rivals. They play the elimination Minor Semi-Final next week.

We now have one team already in the Grand Final (the u11 Golds) in a fortnight's time. Next weekend we will have 3 teams playing in sudden death games, 2 of which will be playing for a place in their Grand Final.
