u10 Greens - 2010
Penshurst under 10 Greens – Season 2010 Overview
as at 18th July 2010

2010 has been a great year so far – size doesn’t matter or does it?
Our team is a typical of all Penshurst footy teams, these qualities being:
- Core group of boys that have been together for 4–5 years
- Not the biggest (in size) team in the competition, we rank about 5th in this department
- Good kids, great families, excellent manager and dedicated trainers.
Over the last 18 months we’ve trained with a heavy focus on defence and ball skills, therefore the boys have been recently reaping the rewards of good catch/pass skills, team work and solid defensive technique. Coming into the last round, we were leading the competition (8 wins, 1 draw, 1 loss).
Last year we finished 4th (we had to win our last round match to grab 4th spot and make semis)...Maybe size doesn’t matter !
Nice to see the numbers in this tackle, and good technique.
It's paid good dividends for us placing the boys into positions at pre-season training in 2009, and this year we continued to develop the boys in their roles. The team contains two excellent centres with speed to burn, three solid props who continually make good yards, a good combination in the halves, and an excellent dummy half interchange. Our kick off positioning and tactics seem to work and all our goal kickers are very successful.
The boys now understand their positions, know our game plan and are improving with each game.

As seen above, the boys share a great team spirit and just love playing / training together.
The stronger opposition for us in our division are Hurstville, Renown Green and Arncliffe.
2010 Highlight – An excellent game against Renown Green where we defended really well, and came up with a 12-all draw. Also playing at Kogarah Oval at half time a few Friday nights ago.
2010 Lowlight – Giving away a halftime lead of 24-10 against Hurstville, thus losing 34-30.
Most Improved Players in 2010 – Joel McGaw, Nicholas Pizanias, Jake Cable, Mark Lawler and Marley Smith.
Manager – Mark Wise
Trainers – John Kennedy, Alex Economu & Guille Lovis

We have about 3 more rounds to play until the semis, and the boys are looking forward to good weather so these are possible.
Most pleasing for me as coach is to see the boys enjoying their Rugby League, developing team skills, and watching them trying to act humble after they win games.
