Penshurst RSL teams enjoyed a very successful Saturday in week 5 of the season. On Saturday in the Minis and Mods, our 6s and 7s started the weekend with strong performances before suffering narrow defeats. The 8s then led an undefeated charge of the Penshurst RSL teams through the rest of Saturday. Even the under 12s, who looking were at two heavy defeats in succession when they trailed 0-17 shortly before half-time, were able to maintain the Mod teams' undefeated status when they secured a draw with less than 2 minutes remaining in their game.
On Sunday, the International teams performed equally as well. Whilst the 13s and 14s put in brave efforts in difficult circumstances, the 16s recorded a big win and the 19s came from behind at half time to also win well. The 18s had a rest with the bye.
Congratulations to all of our teams on a fantastic weekend. You've raised the bar for future weekends.
This week sees all of our teams on the road, spread far and wide across the St George & Balmain districts. While under 18s have the bye this week, our under 19s finally take to the field on Sunday @ Coogee Oval against the Coogee Wombats at 1:00pm.
Week four has our mini and mod teams playing away from home and our international sides, all bar the under 19s, playing at home. Once again, the call goes out for help in the canteen and with the setting up and packing down of the field. Please try to get to the park if you can.
A very sunny and warm Saturday at HV Evatt delivered mixed results for our club. The standouts were a very strong 26-10 win for the under 10 Golds over the undefeated Renown side, and a strong come from behind 30-17 win to the under 11s at Cahill Park. Our international sides also returned a mixed bag. The under 13s got out of jail with a couple of late tries whilst the 16s and 18s finished their 7-a-side comps and are now looking forward to playing 13-a-side footy.
Our Mini and Mod teams took to the field on Saturday across the district for their fourth game of the season. As usual, there was a mixed bag of results, though this week more Penshurst RSL were successful than those that were not. Standout performances included the under 6 Golds who recorded their first win of the season in a nail biter, the under 8s who ended a run of outs with a strong win and both the under 10 Golds and under 11s who withstood determined opponents to record strong victories. Well done to all teams !!
Of our International teams, all were at HV Evatt Park. The under 13s maintained their undefeated run with a late victory, the 14s were unable to maintain their good first half before losing the game in the second half and both the 16s and 18s commenced their 13-a-side seasons with courageous come-from-behind victories. Unfortunately, the under 19s didn't play again, this time due to the deferrment of their game.
The annual ANZAC march for Penshurst RSL is coming up! On Sunday 23 April , we will assemble in Austral Street near Penshurst Girls H.S at 1.30pm, with the march starting at 1.45pm (front of high school). We are asking players to come to the march dressed in their playing gear to represent us. The march continues to the club for a short service and wreath laying. The duration is about 30 minutes and drinks and chips are provided after. As the seniors play on Sunday we really rely on the juniors to represent our Club. Please help us by organising as many of your players as possible to honour the people who fought for, and in many cases gave their lives for us.
