Penshurst RSL Rugby League wishes to express its deepest sympathies to Kevin, Michael and Anthony. Our thoughts are with you and your extended family throughout this difficult time.
The draw for week 8 is now available. The most prominent aspect of the draw this week is the Craig Rimmer Carnival for the Mod teams on Saturday. Penshurst RSL will be host at Evatt Park to games from the under 9s and under 11s grades in the carnival. These will be preceded by our Mini teams.
This will be a very big day for us at Evatt Park. The club needs as many hands as possible to help us through the day - in the canteen, on the BBQ, setting up and cleaning up the park and just generally helping us run the Rimmer Carnival Games. All help is appreciated.
On Sunday, most of us are back at Evatt again for our International teams. The only ones not at home are the under 14s and the under 19s. Again, parental help in the canteen and on the BBQ is required prior to your son's game.
Our Mini teams participated in the Mini Gala Day at Peakhurst Park with great enthusiasm. Each team played two shortened games and many players were proudly wearing their Mini Footy Star t-shirts afterwards. As no results were recorded, we can only report each team's opposition.
Meanwhile, it was business as usual for our Mod teams. The u9 Greens defended very strongly for a great win; the u9 Golds battled bravely against a stronger opponent; the under 9 Golds withstood a strong challenge from a willing opponent and the u12s come back from a large deficit to nearly run down and upset a more fancied opponent. The u10 Greens and the u11s both had the Bye.
Of our International teams, the 13s won a tightly fought battle; the 14s had a tough day at the office, playing only with 11 boys (who should be proud of a great effort in very difficult circumstances); the 16s fought back after conceding an 18-0 lead to win a high scoring affair; the 18s played well in patches for their win and the 19s weren't consistent enough on the day to take the points.
The fixtures for Week 7 are now available. Please note the change to the Under 13s starting time on Sunday which has been delayed by an hour due to a forfeit in the Under 15s.
It is with great sadness that we report the sudden loss of Frances O'Sullivan, a long time and highly respected member of the Penshurst RSL Rugby League community. Fran passed away suddenly last Sunday evening, 14th May.
Fran was a well loved and popular member of the O'Sullivan and Mannering families, both prominent Penshurst RSL families. She was the wife of Penshurst RSL icon Kevin, who played first grade for St George in the 70s, and the mother of Michael and Anthony, both Penshurst RSL juniors. She was also the much loved aunt of two other Penshurst RSL juniors, Jeff and Peter Mannering. Michael and Jeff both represented St George in the lower grades and Peter is the current coach of Penshurst RSL's under 18s team.
A strong and enthusiastic supporter of Penshurst RSL Rugby League, Fran was a generous and caring person who will be greatly missed by all that knew her.
Fran's funeral service was held Friday, 19th May, at St Declan's, Penshurst and was followed by a cremation service at Woronora Crematorium, Sutherland.
Saturday at HV Evatt Park gave us some mixed results and some close struggles, with the standout being the under 10 Golds runaway 74-5 win over the Kings Head Cowboys. The under 9 Golds overcame a very strong Hurstville United in what was the match of the day 19-10.
On Sunday, however, most Penshurst RSL teams had a tough day at the office with our only real victory being the under 13s 22-16 win over Brighton Seagulls. Even the 16s victory was hollow as there scheduled opponents forfeited the match. No worries, boys, there is always next week.
Today's match at 1PM vs Concord-Burwood RSL has been forfeited. Could all boys take the opportunity to take the time to make their mothers a cup of tea for Mother's Day.
