ANZAC Day 2007 at Penshurst RSL

on .

Penshurst RSL commemorated ANZAC Day 2007 last Sunday, 22nd March, 2007. A dedication was performed at the front of the club, followed by a march along the length of Penshurst Street.

In a show of respect to our fallen, Penshurst RSL Rugby League was represented by about 30 Mini and Mod footballers. Our contingent was led in the parade by Syd White, President of Penshurst RSL, and club director, Graeme Hemopo, who is also a Life Member of the football club.

A double header at HV Evatt Park is the feature of the week 04 draw. Apart from the under 9s,  under 10 Greens (both at Bexley) and the under 21s (Friday night at Redmond), all Penshurst RSL teams are at home this weekend. The Minis and Mods play on the Saturday and on Sunday we welcome our International teams to Evatt for the first time this season.

NB: It is a big weekend at Evatt. Help is needed setting up and cleaning up the park at the start and end of both days - from all teams !!!

It is also important that all teams contribute to the effort in the canteen and on the BBQ in the hour before your game. PLEASE give your assistance as this is a major fund raiser for YOUR child and his/her team.

Week 03 was opened on Friday night with our under 21s' first game of the year. In a tight and entertaining affair our boys went down to Holy Cross.

On Saturday, a full house at Evatt Park witnessed a great day of Mini and Mod football. Most of our teams were successful with only the under 8s and 12s going down in hard fought contests. Well done, boys.

On Sunday, both the under 14s and 15s played strongly before succumbing to stronger opponents whilst the under 17s recorded a strong victory. The under 19s had the weekend off.

Results - Week 02.2007

Our first home games of the season and it was great to see a lot of new faces at Evatt Park. As usual, our under 6s provided the early entertainment in their matches. The under 7s continued their good start to the season with a comprehensive win, with our under 8s having the Bye.

In their first game of the season, the under 9s put up a brave effort before being narrowly beaten by Renown. In the under 10s, our Greens put in a brave display against the highly rated Brighton side and the Golds bounced back from a narrow loss in week 1 to record a victory. The under 11 Greens shook off their opening loss with a solid victory against Renown and the Golds continued their improved start to the season with a win over Brighton. Our under 12s finished things off with a big win against Renown.

Undoubtedly, the highlight of the day was our under 19s team who faced off against Renown at OKI Jubilee Stadium. In a clinical display, Penshurst ran in 8 tries in a runaway 46-0 victory. Special mention to BJ Latimer who had a personal haul of 22 points for the game.

On Sunday our under 15s, with only 12 players, put in a courageous effort to be beaten by Arncliffe. The boys never stopped trying and the scoreline did not reflect the true nature of the game. In the next match, our under 17s started strongly only to trail at the break. With less than 10 minutes to go and trailing 24-4, our boys went on a scoring spree which resulted in a 24-all draw. The under 14s and 21s had the Bye
